Our state leaders have interesting ways of thinking.
Gov. Quinn has begun withholding legislators’ pay to pressure them to reach a “fix” of the state’s biggest fiscal problem.
House Speaker Madigan and Senate President Cullerton are now bringing suit against Quinn claiming his action is unconstitutional, when it is plainly constitutional.
At the same time all three — Madigan, Cullerton and Quinn — are straining credulity to claim that impairing state pensions is somehow justifiable, when that is plainly unconstitutional.
These leaders evidently view the Illinois Constitution as a mere inconvenience to be misused or gotten around any way they can. They might as well tear it up.
