Here are some of the good things readers noticed around the area recently:
Habitat for Humanity of Danville sends hearts to “the sponsors and patrons who made the recent Souperbowl such a success. “Thanks also to the First Presbyterian Church for permitting us to use its facilities and the Danville Dashers, who showed they are as capable performing KP duty as they are on the ice.”
Bismarck Lions Club sends hearts to all those who helped with its Pancake & Sausage Day. Our event was another great success. We served 989 meals and sold the meat from 19 hogs. It would not be as big of a success without the help of many individuals and businesses that purchased sponsor packets of tickets.
“Those include Hoopeston Cars; Vermilion County Clerk Lynn Foster; Harris Insurance; state Rep. Josh Harms, District 106; Anthem Chevrolet, Buick; Vermilion County Linda Lucas Anstey; The Insurance Center of Fowler Ind.; Showtime Costume Sales & Rental; Hawkings Excavating; Danville Paper & Supply; Ribbe Trucking; Iroquois Federal; Stewart Grain; First Midwest Bank; Danville Sunset Funeral Homes; Bunge Milling; Birkey’s Farm Stores; Robinson Chiropatric; Prairie States Warehouse; Davan’s Body Shop; Illinois FS; Urbana Double S Feed; and Wolfe-Blurton Funeral Home.
“Also, the Aslee Weidenberner family; Weidenberner Trash Removal; Helena Chemical Co.; Wilson’s Complete Auto Center; Aqua Illinois; In the Dog House Hot Air Balloon; Seth Zurate Dupont/Pioneer Seeds; Carle Hoopeston Health Center; Chuck Mocbee; Mike Marron; Gary Weinard, county board chairman; and Vermilion County Treasurer Susan Stine.
“The support of these sponsors and the public is greatly appreciated. Thank you.”
Tobi Peck of Danville sends hearts to an anonymous good Samaritan.
“I received an anonymous $50 gift card to my favorite Village Mall County Market. The envelope was postmarked Peoria. I didn’t recognize the handwriting. It had to be someone who knows that Village Mall County Market is my grocery store of preference. Since I have no way of knowing who sent it, I am putting a note of gratitude, thanks and appreciation here in hopes that my benefactor or benefactress will see it. It will certainly come in handy.”
Bobbi Huckstadt of Danville sends hearts to those who helped make a special day even better. “On Feb. 2, we had a surprise 80th birthday party for my father, Bob Masulis, and 60th for my brother-in-law Bill Sohn. The turnout was great with people coming from Alabama, Indianapolis, Chicago, LaSalle-Peru and Mattoon.
“We asked that in lieu of gifts, the guests bring donations for C.A.R.A. (Citizens for Animal Rescue and Adoption). The donations were overwhelming and we had to use a truck to get them all to C.A.R.A.! This organization is the only no-kill shelter in the area and is run by volunteers. Please think about donating to this wonderful group and any help volunteering also would be greatly appreciated.
“I just wanted to thank everyone who brought donations for C.A.R.A. and for attending my father’s party. He was really surprised and had a great time. Your generosity was greatly appreciated and maybe we’ll have another party on his 90th!”
