Another tragedy hit our country recently, only this time the truly innocent suffered.
The thought that so many children and staff lost their lives and others had their innocence taken away is unimaginable and unbelievable.
Yet it did happen.
The students and staff in Newtown, Conn., were heroes that day, but I’m sure the staff would tell you differently. They were just protecting “their” kids.
I have been an elementary secretary in Danville School District 118 for the past 14 years.
I have worked at Douglas and Cannon schools. I have worked with many coworkers and come to know a couple of hundred others.
Since the Newtown killings, the images of those I know who are in the education field have gone through my mind and I can honestly say there is not one person who would not put the well-being of a child before his or her own.
We spend five days a week with your children and we get to know them. We know their likes and their dislikes, their strengths and weaknesses. We are so proud of them when they accomplish something and worry about them when they struggle.
We try hard to teach them not only academically but life lessons and hope we are helping in some way to shape them into well-rounded adults. We care about your kids and grow to love them.
Please continue sending your kids to school knowing they are being taken care of as well as we would take care of our own. God bless us all.
