Gun buy-backs have been suggested by some in Danville and Champaign-Urbana as a solution to the shootings plaguing parts of our cities. Participating in gun buy-backs because you believe criminals have too many guns is like having yourself castrated because you believe the neighbors have too many kids.
People need to take responsibility for themselves, even if that means arming themselves, not giving their guns away, thinking the bad guys will give their guns away, too.
We need people working with the authorities to put the bad guys away, and we need authorities in place who will demonstrate their ability to do just that. Right now, we have neither!
People do not trust the authorities to protect them, or to work in their best interest. The current authorities are more interested in pursuing Illinois’ current perverted state governors and recent past two governors’ politically correct goals, than putting away and keeping put away those in our society who have demonstrated their inability to walk the straight and narrow.
The people don’t trust the police, particularly the politicized state police, and the local police have not earned the people’s trust. Further, the court system effectively does not work. Until we fix these two problems, the people are on their own, and they best step up to the challenge and protect themselves.
The police are minutes away when seconds count, and our courts have repeatedly ruled that authorities have no particular duty to protect you. You are on your own.
