Yes, the taxpayers understand the budget needs to be balanced. I would like to know why every time Danville faces a budget problem it’s always the fire department that is considerred for cuts. It’s never the police, street department or high-salaried department heads.
Of course, there will be people who will holler not to cut this or that but in reality we need to focus like we do on a personal level as in our own households. If we cannot afford it, we cut it out of our lives.
If a user fee is implemented and we are required to pay a monthly fee, you can bet it will increase whenever we need additional revenue. I have seen it happen so many times.
The tax from fast food restaurants that was implemented years ago is just another additional revenue source used for whatever. Good intentions were in mind when Danville first passed this into law. Some signs were created reminding people to keep Danville clean, but other than that, nobody is being paid to go around town and pick up trash. This was the primary reason the tax was put into place. Yet we see trash all over the place and the tax will be there forevermore.
Once a tax is placed for whatever reason, it will never go away. It will most likely be increased whenever we need to balance the budget. The easy solution to any problem is additional revenue. Think about it.
