On Jan. 18, my husband and I were shopping at County Market on North Vermilion when I received a very pleasant surprise that brightened my entire day.
A young boy was coming down a grocery aisle with a man and each of them was holding something wrapped in a piece of tissue paper. As we neared them, the man said something to the young boy who then came to me and handed me a carnation wrapped in the paper. The man said he and his nephew were out doing random acts of kindness.
As I reflect back on that selfless act, I am encouraged this man was not only talking about kindness with his nephew, he was walking the journey with him and teaching the nephew how to be kind and an encouragement to others. I did not get their names and want to recognize and thank them for the time they took out to minister to me.
How would we affect our lives and those of others, if we all would continue to find ways during the year to bring joy to others through random acts of kindness? Take a minute and think about that today and then decide how you are going to “pass it on” to someone this year.
