Use different marriage licenses
Politicians need guidance. Give incumbent opponents a chance. Tell them, before voting against them. Contact Gov. Pat Quinn and Illinois State Sen. Mike Frerichs, and U.S. Senators Richard Durbin and Mark Kirk.
Frerichs and Quinnn have the wrong fix for the civil unions problem. A U.S. Supreme Court decision gives federal benefits to same-sex spouses if their state has same-sex marriage. The court decision is generous, but it made our Illinois Civil Unions law insufficient. Our state government acted incorrectly. With Frerichs’ and Quinnn’s support, in June 2014, same-sex couples can marry in Illinois.
Sex is important. To pretend the difference between traditional and same-sex marriage is not important, is dishonest. Tell the governor and senator to find another solution. They have until June. Otherwise, vote them out of office. We need an Illinois marriage license that is federally valid but different for same-sex couples.
Contact senators Durbin and Kirk. Tell them to support the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act in the U.S. Senate. The act protects unborn children from abortion beginning at 20 weeks fetal age. It is based on scientific evidence that by this stage of development an aborted unborn child has excruciating pain. The act has 40 sponsors. Senators Durbin and Kirk are not among them. Tell them your vote depends upon their sponsorship of this act.
