Sue Comstock hopes the community of Hoopeston will share the gift of giving and become involved in the first Christmas dinner for local residents who will be spending Christmas alone this year or are shut-ins.
"I just want to make sure, everyone alone (in Hoopeston) has Christmas dinner," Comstock said. "So many have no place to go."
Comstock is in the process of planning Christmas dinner at the Hoopeston MultiAgency, 206 S. First Ave, at noon on Christmas Day.
Jerry’s IGA is donating turkeys for the event, but other food items are needed such as salads, desserts, dressing, mashed potatoes, rolls and other staples of a Christmas dinner.
Electric roasters also are needed to cook the turkeys. Those donating a roaster for the event can drop them off at City Hall, 301 W. Main St.
Volunteers who want to help Christmas day, people willing to donate food items or other essentials, cook a turkey that morning or deliver Christmas dinner to shut-ins can contact Comstock at (217) 495-1620.
People alone, shut-ins who would like food delivered on Christmas, and others with no place to go can contact Comstock at 495-1620, if they plan to attend or need a delivery. Call for a reservation to help determine the number of people to be served.
