HOOPESTON — City council members voted unanimously Tuesday to remain with Allied Waste/Republic Services for trash pick-up.

The city received two bids for waste services, but chose to remain with its current contractor. The new five-year contract begins in April at the proposed monthly rate of $12.45 per unit. This amount is lower than the current garbage charge of $13 shown on present water bills.

The amount will increase in 2015 to $12.70 per unit, in 2016 to $12.95 per unit, 2017 to $13.20 per unit, 2018 to $13.45 per unit per month based on residential units. Allied Waste will have the right to request new rates if the house count changes or fuel costs increase to more than $4.50 per gallon during the contract, an increase of 6 cents per home per month will be added.
