Hoopeston alley cleanup will begin Oct. 1, weather permitting. This is for yard waste only — brush, grass and leaves. No landscape materials, such as lumber, plastic, concrete or brick, will be picked up. If any of these are in the pile, they will not be picked up.

East Central Illinois Community Action Program will be at the Hoopeston Multi Agency, 206 S. First Ave., 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 18, to take applications for energy assistance. No appointment is necessary. This time is for senior citizens and disabled only.

Hank Hornbeck, superintendent of Hoopeston Area schools, informed board members Thursday that staff health insurance rates would increase 5.99 percent from the previous year. Health insurance would remain with Health Alliance.
