Saturday event will help stray animals

HOOPESTON — Rescuing animals, finding good homes for homeless pets and relocating pets are tasks on the to-do list of three Hoopeston women, Crystal Platteter, Sherry Klemme and Lynn Morgan.

The three are sponsoring the first Bark in the Park/Rummage for Rescue event in Hoopeston.

The event scheduled for 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at McFerren Park offers a variety of treasures from rummage sales and vendors, a pet parade, pet portraits, a vaccination clinic and more for pet lovers everywhere.

Treasure boxes will be raffled, with a grand prize in one box and smaller prizes in every treasure box.

Money raised, according to Platteter, will "help transport homeless pets to animal rescues ... the dollars will help pay for gas, vet bills, food, leashes and other things needed."

In conjunction with the Bark in the Park/Rummage for Rescue, La Casa del Sol, located in the Hoopeston Plaza at Illinois Routes 1 and 9, also will donate a portion of restaurant sales on Saturday to the rescue cause.

"Please be sure to eat at La Casa on July 13tand help us raise dollars (for homeless pets)," Platteter said.

Vendors wanting to sell items are requested to make a $20 donation to set up a table at McFerren Park.

For more information about the event or to set up a table, contact Crystal Platteter at 497-8657 or e-mail: platteters3@frontier.com.

Animal control in a community is essential to prevent overpopulation of pets and pests. Spaying and neutering pets prevent unwanted puppies and kittens and pet dumping in the country in and around the Hoopeston community.
