HOOPESTON — A Hoopeston Area school bus with students from the Rankin area was involved in an accident Tuesday morning on Illinois Route 9 near the cattle pens west of town. Parents were notified of the accident.
"No one was seriously injured," said Superintendent Hank Hornbeck, "and all have been checked out by EMT's at the scene. Four students were transported to a local hospital for precautionary measures."
Another bus was sent to the accident scene to take the remaining students to their respective schools, Hornbeck said.
According to the report from Hornbeck, the bus hit a cow that was loose. The cow was the only casualty in the accident.
Transportation director Mark Eighner said there was "not much damage done to the bus. We were able to drive the bus back to the lot for an evaluation."
The bus was driven yesterday afternoon on the route, Eighner added.
