Police continue search

Purse found; phone missing

HOOPESTON — Search work is continuing in the attempt to find a Hoopeston woman missing for more than a week.

Amanda Walters-Pentecost, 33, was reported missing on Feb. 1 in Hoopeston. Since that time, police conducted searches of the area trying to find her.

Hoopeston Police Chief Mark Drollinger confirmed there was no new information in the case as of Monday, adding police have followed a number of leads that have taken officers from Danville to Watseka.

From the beginning, police said there were no indications that Walters-Pentecost — a mother of two children — was the victim of a crime.

Drollinger said he is putting the word out to owners of vacant property in the Hoopeston area.

“Check them to see if she sought shelter in one of them during inclement weather and extreme temperatures,” he said.

Drollinger said the family also has organized search parties trying to find Walters-Pentecost. The family conducted a press conference during the weekend.

According to police, Walters-Pentecost’s purse was found at one point since she was reported missing. Her cellular phone has not been found.

The woman is described as standing 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 140 pounds. She has brown hair, green eyes and several tattoos. Anyone with information regarding Walters-Pentecost’s whereabouts is asked to call Hoopeston police at 283-5196.
