Hoopeston Area students to hear about Internet safety

HOOPESTON — Christine Feller, internet safety specialist with the Illinois Attorney General's office, will present Internet safety at Honeywell Grade School, Thursday, February 6th, 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. for parents of students in the third through sixth grade.

"She will do Internet safety with the kids during the day," said Principal Linda Sheppard, "and Honeywell and John Greer parents in the evening."

Topics that will be addressed are cyberbulling, digital citizenship, self-representation and sexting and on-line predators. The presentation also will highlight resources to help parents discuss digital safety with their children.

Feller is a Hoopeston Area alumni.

In other school board business, the school board members approved unanimously the job descriptions for the district webmaster and middle school dean/athletic director at Thursday's meeting. Both jobs have been posted, according to Superintendent Hank Hornbeck.

Board members also approved the officials' pay increase beginning in the 2014-2015 school year.

+ Rossville student orientation will be 6 p.m. Jan. 27 with eighth-grade shadowing taking place during the day.

+ Learned the faculty and staff will be treated to a breakfast by the Expect More Committee at 6:15-7:45 a.m. Jan. 24 at the Hoopeston Legion

+ Learned the Sweetheart Dinner will be Feb. 14 at the high school.

The next meeting of the Hoopeston school board will begin at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Hoopeston Area High School library.
