HOOPESTON — Tom Sweeney, local playwright and member of the Hoopeston Public Library staff, is presenting his 2013 Summer Teen Performance Program, "Mummies in the Library!"

“The program remains a premier summer opportunity for teens to work together and have fun," Sweeney said.

Practices are 3:15-5:15 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, now until July 9.

The story follows a madcap 1938 supper when Mr. Frenzy’s mummy display visits the Hoopeston Public Library and the comedy begins. In addition to the mummy invasion, the library faces foreclosure woes with the evil villain demanding the mortgage be paid.

Characters Fern, Ramses Rae, Cleopatsy, Mrs. Helen Carnegie and Inspector Fog each fail to stop the villain. Not until Pharaoh Larry arrives, searching for his bride among the Hoopeston women, do things settle down.

"But of course, that’s when the audience begins its participation," said Sweeney, "and mummy adventures start anew."

Smaller roles include the terrified eyewitness, radio announcers and mummies.

The performance of "Mummies in the Library" will be at 6:30 p.m. July 9 in the Hoopeston Library meeting room.

Sweeney’s previous programs with the library settings includes “Aliens in the Library,” “Murder in the Library,” and “Clifford, This is Your Life!”
