Local festival supports some serious work

The Commercial-News

---- — A local festival with one of the sillier names in the area — Tilton’s Redneck Games — kicks off tonight, but the festivities carry a serious purpose.

The festival raises a significant amount of money for the Tilton Ambulance Service, which responds to calls not only in the village but along a section of Interstate 74 as well.

These volunteers stand ready to head out into any kind of weather — think about a minus 20 below wind chill on a snowy February night — to assist those in need.

They put themselves in precarious positions at times in an effort to save the lives of their neighbors. It’s a dedication to service that deserves everyone’s support.

The Redneck Games includes many events associated with traditional festivals. There will be pageants and music and lots of fun.

The festival grounds are located at Illinois Route 1 (Georgetown Road) and 16th Street in Tilton. That’s a busy stretch of roadway, so be extra careful when entering or leaving the grounds. Just because the ambulance service is sponsoring the event doesn’t mean they want to put their emergency medical skills to work as well.

Take the time to show your support for the Tilton Ambulance Service. Events begin at 4:30 p.m. today and continue even after Sunday night’s fireworks. It looks like a good time.
