Mother Nature appears to be winding up to deliver another big punch to our area. Midwestern winters — you have to love them ... or move to Florida.
Seriously, the next few days look to bring some serious cold temperatures and even more snow to streets still covered in spots from last weekend’s storm. Planning ahead and patience will be key to making sure everyone comes through the pending cold snap without problems.
More snow is on its way tonight followed by temperatures colder than we’ve seen in some time. Last year at this time, our high temperatures were in the 30s. If Monday night’s forecast holds, the high temperature will be minus-7 degrees. The record cold for Jan. 6 is minus-9 degrees in 1924, but on Jan. 5, 1999, the city recorded a record low of minus-24 degrees. So we’ve seen this kind of cold before.
Planning ahead will pay big dividends. Shopping before tonight’s snow, rescheduling Monday appointments and checking over your vehicle to be sure everything is ready for the cold.
Let’s just all be patient, do what needs to be done and settle in for a wintry week ahead.
