Vikings on the way to victory

Danville High School

DANVILLE — The senior football players of Danville High School have high expectations to live up to this season.

As the reigning back-to-back Big 12 champions, the boys will have a serious struggle to “stay on top,” says assistant coach Brian Anderson.

Senior quarterback Dennis Hightower says, “We have a chance if all the players play their roles and come ready to play.”

Hightower feels everyone should compete hard because they have big shoes to fill from the last two years and want to represent their school and the community well.

“Coming to practice or a game unprepared will not only hurt you, but also the team and the community,” said Hightower.

“The community has been there supporting the team every game, home and away and that really affects how the players go on the field and play.”

Anderson says there is a definite goal for the players to continue the 20-game winning streak for the regular season and extend it into the post-season.

“The conference will be tough and we are going to have to work hard to win,” Anderson said. “These guys have a lot of playoff experience and if they return, they will have to take it one game at a time.”

As the Vikings’ returning quarter back, Hightower is aware of his team’s potential and has high expectations for the remainder of the season.

“Even though we’ve lost some good players, we’ve strengthened our weaknesses,” he said. “With the talent we have, we should definitely go all the way to state this year .”
