DANVILLE — Firefighters extinguishing a house fire early Friday morning discovered a body in the home.
The fire was reported just before 2 a.m. at 12 S. Griffin St. A police officer who saw smoke in the area tracked it down to the home and reported the fire.
According to Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason, firefighters quickly handled flames at the entrance to the home. The body — which has not been identified — was then found inside.
An autopsy is expected in the case and the cause of the fire is under investigation by local officials and the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office.
